东曹株式会社 于1935年在日本山口县成立，最初是一家生产烧碱和纯碱的专业企业。公司前身为东洋曹达工业株式会社（TOYO SODA），1987年改名为现在的东曹株式会社。“东曹”是“东洋曹达”的缩写。

现在，曹达已发展成为生产各种化工产品、开发先进产品技术的跨国集团公司。东曹是石油化工、无机化工、精细化工、电子材料和医疗诊断等产品的全球供应商，客户涉及化工、半导体、制药、保健、食品以及其它众多行业。东曹集团由140多家子公司及关联公司组成，全球拥有不同国籍的员工10,000多人，2006年集团销售额超过66亿美元。

东曹达（上海）贸易有限公司
该全资子公司于2004年4月在上海成立，成为东曹在中国的产品销售、市场营销和业务开发的代表。目前经营产品主要包括有机化学品、生命科学产品(高效液相色谱分析柱及填料等)及电子材料等。
